I woke at 6am local time and went and got breakfast and took some photos. There’s something so free about waking up in the back of a van to a beautiful sunrise and a crisp, clear day.

Happy Chappy parked in a truck stop in Gary, IN.

I had my first shower this morning at a friend’s place in Silver Lake, IN. There is nothing better than a shower after 17 hours of flying and many more than that “in transit”. Silver Lake is beautiful, as is most of the Eastern region I’ve seen so far. It’s very green and not what I expected. This is definitely the way to see America – I’d much rather this than a structured sight-seeing exhibition.

We paid our first visit to Walmart this morning to stock up on supplies. I’m astounded by how cheap general items are here – including groceries.

We’re currently en route to Niagara Falls. I haven’t done any of the driving yet – I think it’s probably better to observe for a while first! Driving on the right isn’t as strange as I first thought it would be, but working out the give way rules is pretty interesting.

New York welcome sign.

We stopped in a camping ground near Barcelona, NY for the night. It wasn’t cheap at $26 for the night but was a beautiful place with a small stream and very little noise.

I will post photos once I can get access to erana.co.nz – I wrote Orcon a rather pointed email last night. I’m having trouble logging into Flickr too but of course, all emails from them go to my erana.co.nz account. Curse you Orcon!
