Slept pretty poorly – until we turned the air conditioning on in the room at around 0200. Left the motel later than usual this morning – around 0730. The breakfast was a little disappointing at the Super 8, too.
We headed straight for Banff National Park. The weather packed it in just as we were approaching so unfortunately a lot of the photos I got are over-exposed. Though the trip through the national parks was amazing. I even saw a wild bear (and got photos)!
We had lunch at a cute little restaurant along the route. Though I don’t recommend eating there unless you REALLY like goat’s cheese, which I don’t. We had pizza and a hot chocolate (which had goat’s cream whipped on top – gross) each but left with leftovers after the waitress asked if we would like to take the leftovers with us (it would have been rude to refuse).
One of my most favourite features within the park is a spot called “Weeping Wall”. In the photos it’s hard to express the magnitude of the wall. It was really high!
We eventually stopped at the Icefield Center, which is basically at the border of Banff and Jasper. Amazing view here with a great tourist information center. Spotted a number of New Zealanders that had signed the guest book, so added my own entry to it.
We got petrol just after we turned around – which was expensive but we needed the fuel. It was there that I first learnt of Michael Jackson’s death, thanks to Howie’s post on Facebook. Wow! RIP Michael.
We then headed on our way out of the park (incidentally, the trip on the way out of the park seemed to take a lot less time than the way in).
I’m currently in a motel in Lethbridge, AB. We had some microwave meals that we were keeping from camping so we had those for dinner.
We’re heading to Bow Island tomorrow and then on to Mount Rushmore. Can’t wait!
