We woke at 0625 and set off from Assateague State Park at 0720.

Sunrise on the beach at Assateague.

Stopped in at Walmart Pokomoke to stock up on supplies. Still impressed by the sheer range of products available!

Another warm day, but it started raining as soon as we got to North Carolina.

Welcome to North Carolina sign.

Near Durham, NC noticed smoke billowing from the back of the van and pulled off the interstate. Managed to find a transmission service place so limped there as quickly as we could. It’s the first time I’ve ever really thought that we’re alone here – there isn’t an AA ready and willing to come and help! But the people at the transmission place were lovely and very helpful. It’ll take them til tomorrow (and $650) to get the van back on the road. Until then, we’re holed up at the Marriott Hotel. Can’t really complain!

Going to try and make it to Memphis, TN tomorrow but will wait and see.

Feeling slightly “fluey” at the moment – surely it can’t be swine flu!

(Hurry up Orcon!)
