The check-out time at the hotel was 1100 so we departed around 1030. The concierge were very thorough and ensured we were okay with a ride to wherever we wanted to go. They had a complimentary service that would have dropped us anywhere within five miles of the hotel, but we told them we had a van parked around the corner. In reality, the van was in the shop a few blocks away but we had plenty of time to kill so were in no hurry. We had McDonalds for breakfast. Interesting! I had a McBriddle meal and I found it very odd. It’s like a McMuffin you get in New Zealand, but with a sweet bun. Not altogether bad, just different.
By the time we got to Mike’s Transmissions, the temperature was already pretty hot so I was glad they had an air-conditioned reception/waiting room. Lisa and the Manager, Irv, were very good to us. They were very accomodating and it was comforting to hear nearly every customer come in and say they had come to them because they had been recommended by someone else. We waited there until around 1600. We held high hopes as their specialist took the Happy Chappy round the block… It got the a-okay, so we paid the bill and went on our way.
We drove the miles to Candler NC, where we had identified another KOA kamp spot and parked there for the night. The only place we could get wifi access was up near the office/reception area where there was also a big barbecue area and covered deck. I spent some of the time up there watching fireflies in the bush. I am starting to like America more and more – the roading is fantastic, the people are so friendly and there really is some beautiful countryside to be seen. Granted, I haven’t been into the larger centres yet (LA and Vegas are still to come) so I guess I may think differently once I have. So far, suburbia and the Interstate get two thumbs up!
