Breakast at the hotel this morning was a little disappointing, though we were pretty late getting there so it’s understandable. We didn’t leave the hotel until after 1000 and had an easy trip across the South Dakota border to Minnesota. We’d booked a hotel that’s within walking distance of the Mall of America so headed there.
A much more relaxed day today – only about four hours of driving so we had a lot of time.
Arrived at the hotel just before 1500 – spent a little time settling into our room and then headed across the parking lot to the Mall of America.
Let me just say, the place is HUGE. There’s over 520 shops in the mall, over four levels. There’s also a freaking amusement park inside the damn mall! After I followed my travelling buddy around for a while just getting my head around the place, when he headed for the specialty “farm toys” store (yes, actual children’s farm toys specialty store), I went to Best Buys to have a look around. What I have to remember is that there is a lot of stuff there, but a lot of it I can get at home. I’ve already bought a little mini-laptop (Acer Aspire One) and an 8GB USB stick.
I’m more looking for gifts for people now but have no idea what to get! There’ll likely be a lot of candy and bits and pieces – I guess I’ll know them when I see them!
We had lunch at a place called Johnny Rockets and it was the best meal I’ve had since I’ve been here! It was an old school burger joint and their burgers were superb – their malt shakes even better! Mind you, anything beats the goats cheese smorgasboard we had at that place in Banff National Park.
Just chilling at the hotel now. Now that I’ve had a taster of Mall of America today, I’m ready to get stuck in and do some shopping tomorrow!
