Set off around 0400 from the Towanda Service Area.

Our destination was Fort Wayne International Airport, where we’d organised a rental car for the rest of the trip. It just isn’t worth the stress of worrying about the vehicle you’re in and being thousands of miles from “home”.

We ended up with a nice Nissan Murano (3.5l V6) that is big enough to fit all our stuff – even the giant chiller we have been lugging everywhere. It will be hilarious to see the looks on the faces of the rental car people when we return it – it’s likely that we’ll clock up at least 5,000 miles on it by the time we’re done. It was from Fort Wayne that I had my first drive in America and I have to say I didn’t do all that bad! Luckily we didn’t come across too many complicated intersections. The four way stop rule is interesting though – whoever arrives at the intersection first, goes through first. Anyway, it’s a lovely vehicle to drive and makes me want a new car back home more and more. Next year!

We arrived back in Silver Lake and transferred all the stuff from the Van into the Murano. I slept in the van for the night as I didn’t want to infect the household with my (possible) swine flu. Best sleep so far on the trip – the temperature was fairly mild throughout the night compared to some places we have been.

And this ends today’s blog – was mostly road seen today so nothing to write home about!
